From Doug Sheppare,Superintendent of Schools Regarding the closure of school playgrounds and social distancing guidelines.

Dear Parents/Guardians, As you know, last week the provincial government announced that it would be suspending all in-class instruction for BC’s K-12 learners indefinitely. I know this has resulted in a huge amount of uncertainty. While we don’t have all the answers and details worked out, I want to assure you we are working diligently on next steps and by the end of this week, we plan to share general information with you on what this means for your child(ren)’s education. Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time. Social Distancing Guidelines Social distancing is proven to be one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of illness. We urge you to remind your children of the importance of avoiding close contact with others outside of their immediate family members. We are aware that some young people in our communities are finding it hard to keep their distance from others, but it is vitally important that we keep a minimum of two metres or six feet between people to help reduce infection risk. Please encourage your child(ren) to connect with their friends through technology. In addition, please take a look at this poster outlining safe activities and those to avoid. School Playgrounds and Fields We have closed all school playgrounds, school fields and hard-court areas, and are removing equipment such as basketball hoops. While this may be disappointing for some children and families, it is a necessary step as we do our part in helping to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We thank you in advance for respecting these closures. School District Offices and Buildings Following the direction of the Public Health Officer to help protect our communities from COVID-19, all district offices and buildings are closed to the public until further notice. Our staff will continue providing services during this time. For assistance, please:

  • Call 604-946-4101

  • Email webmaster@deltasd.bc.ca

  • Visit www.deltasd.bc.ca The district will review this decision at the end of Spring Break. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. I wish you and your families the very best. Sincerely,
